Our client is a pioneering force at the forefront of AI and Emerging Technologies, seeking a visionary Senior AI Ethics and Safety Researcher to join their globally distributed, remote-first team. This critical role is dedicated to ensuring the responsible development and deployment of artificial intelligence systems. You will be instrumental in shaping the ethical frameworks, safety protocols, and governance policies that underpin our advanced AI research and products. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of AI/ML principles, coupled with extensive expertise in ethical AI, bias mitigation, fairness, transparency, and AI safety. Your responsibilities will include conducting cutting-edge research, developing practical tools and methodologies, and advising engineering and product teams on best practices for ethical AI development. You will collaborate closely with researchers, engineers, policymakers, and external experts to address complex challenges and foster a culture of responsible innovation.
Responsibilities: Conduct advanced research in AI ethics, safety, fairness, transparency, and accountability. Develop and implement methodologies and tools for evaluating and mitigating ethical risks in AI systems. Collaborate with AI/ML engineers and product managers to integrate ethical considerations throughout the AI development lifecycle. Contribute to the formulation of internal AI governance policies and guidelines. Analyze and address potential societal impacts of AI technologies. Stay at the forefront of academic and industry research in AI ethics and safety. Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals. Engage with external stakeholders, including policymakers, academics, and civil society organizations, to advance the field of AI ethics. Develop training materials and conduct workshops to promote ethical AI practices within the organization. Provide expert consultation on AI ethics and safety issues for internal projects. Mentor junior researchers and contribute to the growth of the AI ethics team. Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent research experience in Computer Science, AI/ML, Philosophy, Law, Sociology, or a related field with a strong focus on AI ethics and safety. Minimum of 6 years of post-doctoral research experience or equivalent in industry research focused on AI ethics, fairness, transparency, safety, or governance. Demonstrated publication record in leading AI/ML, ethics, or safety conferences/journals. Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms and their potential ethical implications. Experience in developing practical frameworks, tools, or metrics for assessing AI ethical risks. Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical and ethical concepts to diverse audiences. Ability to work independently and proactively in a remote, fast-paced research environment. Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Passion for advancing responsible AI development and deployment. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere within the United States.
