## Role Summary

Senior AI/ML Engineer, Conversational AI (Assist Chat) is a production-focused engineering role on the Community & Intelligence Engineering team responsible for scaling the intelligence behind Assist Chat — Motorola’s flagship conversational AI already deployed in 9-1-1 centers, patrol vehicles, and real-time crime centers.

This role drives design, development, evaluation, and operationalization of LLMs and task-specific agents to embed safe, low-latency AI into real-time public safety workflows.

## Key Responsibilities

• Build, fine-tune, and evaluate large language models and task-specific agents tailored to public-safety workflows
• Design and implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines and structured data injection for accurate context and grounding
• Develop summarization, classification, and other downstream NLP components for operational use
• Create and optimize evaluation frameworks combining offline metrics and human-in-the-loop validation to measure accuracy, hallucination risk, and utility
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and full-stack engineering to integrate AI into live real-time workflows (not research-only work)
• Address production constraints: latency, throughput, robustness to ambiguous data, and integration of user feedback loops
• Work with AI researchers and responsible AI teams to ensure safety, compliance, and appropriate risk mitigation strategies
• Implement CI/CD, containerization, and cloud deployment patterns for model pipelines and services

## Required Qualifications

• 3–8+ years of experience in ML/AI engineering roles with a track record of shipping models or pipelines into production
• Strong Python programming and testing skills, and experience collaborating with full-stack engineers
• Familiarity with LLM ecosystems (examples: Open. AI, Anthropic/Claude, Mistral, Llama family) and modern AI tooling/stacks
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines
• Proven ability to communicate technical information effectively in English, verbally and in writing, across distributed teams
• Pragmatic, applied engineering mindset able to deliver under real-world constraints in high-stakes domains

## Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with RAG pipelines, prompt engineering, prompt chaining, and fine-tuning models
• Familiarity with frameworks and libraries such as Lang. Chain, Llama. Index, Ray, and Hugging Face
• Experience or interest in AI safety, model evaluation, and working in regulated or high-stakes domains (public safety)
• Prior experience building human-in-the-loop evaluation systems or production evaluation frameworks
